Had time to celebrate Annette's 40th birthday. I gave her handspun yarn, spun directly from the handdyed locks of the sheep Jewel.

Felted flowers for the shovel that the American Swedish Institute commissioned for the ground breaking day. They ordered 5 different shovels in different materials and techniques that has been taught at the institute. Felted, glass, metal wire, straw, and wood were the chosen materials for the different artist.

Polka-Dotted Double Knitted Scarf

Another pattern that I designed. Double knitting creates many possibilities when creating patterns. Take a little longer to knit, but well worth the trouble. The verigated yarn is handspun from one of my dyed rovings.

A lot has happend since last time I blogged. Last weekend was Shepherd's Harvest, sheep and wool festival at Lake Elmo fairgrounds. I shared a booth with Renee and John, selling wool in many shapes and forms and John's beautiful spindles. Fun and intensive weekend with demonstrating and teaching spinning. Managed to sell a fair amount of wool as well.

Update

Last week, Flickorna Fem http://FlickornaFem.com/, the quintet I belong to, performed at Shorview Library. A small, but very interactive audience. It was really fun, got to translate some old letter from Sweden, written to this woman's grandmother.

More work with wool and dyes. Also, painting on silk scarfs, fun and different. Took some photos of that yesterday. I didn't think we had any wind until I hang the scarfs up on the line outside, it was hard to get a good photo, they were moving so much in the light breeze.

Spun up one of the handpainted rovings and have started to knit a neck warmer. Pictures of that later.

Renee and I was very busy yesterday, dyeing wool in all sorts of colors. We started around 11 a.m. Our friend Heather joined us in the afternoon bringing her knitting and a nice bottle of sparkling wine, mmmm that was very nice, thank your Heather. We had a "what the pantry offers" soup for dinner, and continued with more dyeing. And now my studio is all set up for dyeing, so more will be done.

Trying to figure out how to post pictures hasn't been that easy, but now I'm linked up with Flickr. Posted a bunch of pictures and wrote in Swedish, so here comes some comments in English.

This last weekend we had a snowstorm here in Minnesota. Got close to 20 inches, a lot to shovel. Luckily, we had a thaw last week that cleared some space for the new snow. After shoveling, my son and I made hot chocolate, which we deserved after the hard work.

There is also a picture of me with my newly finished swing coat on. I knitted it with my handspun yarn and I am mighty proud.

During the weekend, I also made saft (a kind of fruit punch) from black currents that I picked last summer. Full of vitamin C, good this time of year. I also dyed some wool that I spun into a skein of colorful yarn. And there is a picture of my sons mittens, made in a technique called thrummed. You knit in tufts of loose wool (the grey) that forms a fluffy layer on the inside. Extremely warm and cosy.

Scarf done!

The scarf I have been knitting for Chris is finally done! Double knit Argyle pattern, looking nice. Also some spun yarn from Blue Faced Leicester sheep, dyed by me for nålbound mittens in blue-brown. And finally the one-ply yarn I spun during Tour the Fleece 2010 now plied with a brown linnen tow yarn. Like it a lot.

Today -24C, cold. The dog will not do his business in the backyard, so I just have to bundle up and dare the cold. He has a nice winter coat, so he doesn't care about the cold. We have a lot of snow, and supposedly will get a little more over the weekend. But still cold. I'm just a little nervous for when spring comes and all the snow melts. Hopefully none of it will find its way into my basement.
Chris will be over tonight, and we might head over to Heather tomorrow for a spin-in/knit-in. The hot-tub will be available, if one dare to go out in the cold. Otherwise no big plans for the weekend.

I have been busy making wool batts for handspinning and Malla's Magical Skin Cream. Also dying much of the wool that I put into my batts. The goal is to have a good inventory for Shepherd's Harvest on Mother's Day weekend in May. My friend Renee and I are going to have a booth, and hopefully, our friend John is joining us with his wonderful spindles.
You can see some of my projects at
Otherwise, it's cold and a lot of snow in Minnesota right now. And I think we are supposed to get more snow tomorrow. Just don't know where to put it, the piles are high already. And I don't want to think about what's going to happen when all that snow melts! I'm very glad I added insulation to my add attic. My heating bill would have been enormous otherwise.
